Dusty's Wine Bar: Elegant, lots of flair
By Robin Swartz / Lansing State Journal
A visit to Dusty's Wine Bar, located within Dusty's
Cellar, 1839 Grand River Ave. in Okemos, is an exercise in elegance.
Sitting unassumingly in a strip mall, the wine bar offers
a menu heavy on contemporary American cuisine with what the owners call
a tropical flair.
Don't be intimidated by the long names of dinner entrees.
Nothing here is plain. You'll sort through items such as Macadamia Crusted
Medallions of Center Cut Pork Loin ($19), Fig and Tangerine Balsamic
Painted Atlantic Salmon Filet ($22) and Tuscan Saffron Penne Rigate
and Fire Roasted Red Peppers ($18).
My companion ordered Roasted Rack of New Zealand Spring
Lamb ($24) and was treated to a tender meal. The lamb was topped with
a sweet and sour pomegranate glaze and had a delicious flavor.
I tried the Great Lakes Whitefish with a Spiced Pretzel
Crust ($19). Accompanied by a dijon mustard and brown ale beurre blanc
over ginger-infused sweet potato mash, this was a terrific light summer
meal. The pretzel crust was an excellent addition to the fish.
The menu also offers a selection of tapas (small, savory
dishes often served as appetizers), pastas and seafood.
Dusty's Wine Bar offers a relaxed bistro atmosphere.
Think fancy garden party as you dress to go out for the evening.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, and the service
is attentive but not overwhelmingly so.
Dusty's has an award-winning wine selection, so even
if you're a newcomer to fine wines, the menu and your server will help
you choose a suitable accompaniment to your meal.
If you like to end your evening on a sweet note, try
the Chocolate Fondue ($9). You'll indulge in a bowl of warm, melted
chocolate and a plate full of strawberries, bananas and angel food cake.
For a less-sweet ending, Dusty's also offers an Imported Cheese Board
($11), featuring four imported cheeses, fruit and nuts.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays, featuring brunch
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
